Ingredients:
For the Cake:
- 1 box white or yellow cake mix (and the ingredients required for the mix, typically eggs, oil, and water)
For the Filling:
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 container (8 oz) Cool Whip or whipped topping, thawed
- 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
For the Topping:
- 1 container (8 oz) Cool Whip or whipped topping, thawed
- Additional cherry pie filling for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
Prepare the Cake:
- Preheat your oven according to the instructions on the cake mix box.
- Prepare the cake mix according to the package instructions.
- Pour the batter into a 9×13-inch baking pan and bake as directed on the box.
- Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely in the pan.
Prepare the Filling:
- In a medium bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk and one container of Cool Whip. Mix until well combined.
- Spread the mixture evenly over the cooled cake.
- Spoon the cherry pie filling evenly over the cream layer.
Add the Topping:
- Spread the second container of Cool Whip evenly over the cherry pie filling layer.
- If desired, add additional cherry pie filling on top for garnish. You can create a swirled effect by lightly swirling the cherry pie filling into the Cool Whip with a knife.
Chill and Serve:
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours, or until ready to serve, to allow the layers to set and the flavors to meld.
- Cut into squares and serve chilled.
