Ingredients:
- 4 large potatoes, sliced into wedges
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
- 12 oz (340g) smoked sausage, sliced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- Chopped chives or green onions for garnish
Instructions:
Roast the Potatoes:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, toss the potato wedges with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika until evenly coated.
- Spread the potatoes in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Roast in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, turning halfway through, until the potatoes are golden and crispy.
Cook the Sausage:
- While the potatoes are roasting, heat a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the sliced sausage to the skillet and cook until browned on both sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
Make the Cheese Sauce:
- In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
- Gradually add the milk and heavy cream, whisking constantly until the mixture thickens.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. If the sauce is too thick, you can add a little more milk to reach the desired consistency.
- Season the sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
Assemble the Dish:
- Add the roasted potatoes and cooked sausage to the skillet with the cheese sauce.
- Toss everything together until the potatoes and sausage are well coated with the sauce.
Garnish and Serve:
- Garnish with chopped chives or green onions.
- Serve the dish hot, either as a main course or as a side dish.
This cheesy sausage and potato skillet is a perfect comfort food, great for a cozy dinner or a satisfying lunch. Enjoy the combination of flavors and textures!
